McKendree English Professor Appointed Contributing Editor, Columnist for The Teaching Professor
Lebanon, IL (09/01/2023) — Dr. Nichole DeWall, professor of English at McKendree University, recently assumed the role of contributing editor at The Teaching Professor, one of the largest international publications of teaching and learning in higher education. In this capacity, she will write a monthly feature that will reach more than 10,000 educators at universities and colleges worldwide. Her first essay, "Too Exhausted to Take Students to an Event? Do It Anyway," appeared in the August 2023 edition of the journal.
Dr. DeWall's next essay is titled "Meet Janus, the Roman God of Efficient Teaching," and will focus on streamlining the teaching practices for maximum efficiency. Following that, she plans on writing a three-part series on bias in student evaluations of teaching.
"This journal offers practical, accessible advice on how to become a better teacher; I think about teaching all the time, so I might as well write about it! I'm enjoying trying a different style of writing: it has a research component, but I can also draw from my experience inside - and outside! - the classroom," Dr. DeWall said. "As a contributing editor, I also weigh in on decisions about the direction of the publication and the kinds of professional development opportunities that it offers through The Teaching Professor's many conferences on teaching and learning."
Dr. DeWall was first featured in the journal in March 2021 when she wrote an essay about pandemic teaching. She also is the director of McKendree University's Honors Program and is a Provost Fellow. Additionally, she has authored several articles in a wide variety of journals.
