Dr. Karee Nasser Named Professor of Special Education at McKendree University
Lebanon, IL (08/19/2022) — McKendree University is proud to announce the recent promotion of Dr. Karee Nasser to professor of special education. Dr. Nasser has been working at the University since 2011 and also serves as the chair of the School of Education.
"Being awarded promotion is quite an honor. I worked as a K-12 special education teacher for 10 years prior to moving on to higher education where I now work to help prepare future educators. Receiving the promotion to full professor is a proud accomplishment and recognition for the work I have done throughout my career," said Dr. Nasser.
Dr. Nasser's teaching interests include students with intellectual disabilities and autism, positive behavior supports for students with low-incident disabilities, and international special education. She has received the Outstanding Educator Alumni award from her undergraduate school, Auburn University, in 2015. She has also received various teaching awards and recognitions throughout her career. Additionally, Dr. Nasser is a member of The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), and the Division of Teacher Education (TED).
When Dr. Nasser isn't teaching, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their three senior dogs - Vegas, a 15-year-old Shih Tzu; Wembley, a 12-year-old rescue dog; and Pippa, an 11-year-old mixed breed. She also occasionally volunteers at Helping Strays Animal Rescue in Monroe County and leads a small group at her church, The Gathering United Methodist Church.
