Two McKendree Professors Team Up with Anahuac University on Interactive COIL Project

Lebanon, IL (03/04/2022) — Dr. Tim Ros and Dr. Jean Sampson have been working with Anahuac University in Mexico on a COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) project. Their classes have been interacting virtually with students from Mexico during this five-week project, which began shortly after the start of the spring semester this year.

Sampson's BUS 450, MGT 314 and MGT 360 classes and Ros's MGT/MKT 340 classes have been participating in this interactive project.

"Our goal is to help students understand other cultures and the importance of working with people from different backgrounds," Sampson said. "I am excited for the opportunity to learn through this program and am so excited for our students, too."

Students from McKendree and Anahuac Universities have been engaging in unique assignments. During one week, students from Anahuac sold a product to Bearcats, who had a chance to negotiate price, quantity, shipping methods, changes needed before purchase and other aspects of the product and sale. In other weeks, students have provided short "a day in the life" videos that showcase the daily goings-on in their lives.

"I believe this has been a great opportunity for our students," Sampson said. "These are cultural differences we could all read about, but by working together with students from another country, our students really get to understand cultural differences. I have enjoyed looking at the recordings of their weekly meetings, and I am so proud of the maturity and interaction of McKendree students."
