Professors Read at Pre-K for National Greek Week

Lebanon, IL (04/02/2019) — Dr. J.L. Kemp and Dr. Pamela Manning of McKendree University captured the attention of pre-kindergartners at Vivian Adams Early Childhood Center and Officer Elementary School in East St. Louis during a "Real Greeks Read" event on March 21. The university donated books to the school, which is attended by children ages 3 to 4. The professors visited the school during National Greek Week on behalf of the university and their sororities, which promote sisterhood, scholarship and service. Dr. Kemp is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho and Dr. Manning is a member of Delta Sigma Theta.

Dr. Kemp, professor of psychology, is McKendree University's first tenured African American professor and a McKendree graduate. Dr. Manning, a former school superintendent, is the first African American assistant professor in the School of Education and teaches in the graduate doctoral program.
