Local Artist, Adjunct Professor Presents New Artwork at Exhibition This September
Lebanon, IL (09/15/2023) — Jeffrey Nihiser, adjunct art professor at McKendree, currently has a work of art exhibited at the HeARTland Gallery in Hillsboro, Ill., throughout the month of September. The exhibition, titled "Divine Intervention," opened on Friday, September 8 and can be seen on Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.
Jeffrey's piece for the exhibition, titled "The Light of Grace," is a mixed media piece that was inspired as a result of his return to his Christian faith over the summer. The work depicts the moment Christ forgave the sins of the woman who washed His feet at the house of the Pharisee. Jeffrey created this piece by using a beautiful combination of graphite, colored pencil, conte, watercolor and gouache, acrylic, gold leaf, gold ink, and acrylic resins. The piece is currently on loan for the exhibition as it resides in the One Family Church in the Shaw neighborhood in St. Louis.
A 1991 McKendree alum who resides in Alhambra, Ill., Jeffrey currently teaches several art courses at McKendree, including 2D design, 3D design, life drawing, illustration, gallery practicum, and ceramics in the spring. He also oversees several internships at the university. Additionally, he will be participating in the Street Art Festival in Highland, Ill., on Saturday, Sept. 16.
