English Professor Dr. Jenny Mueller Awarded Artist Residency This Summer

Lebanon, Ill. (01/23/2025) — Dr. Jenny Mueller, a professor of English at McKendree University, was recently awarded a fully-funded artist residency this June by Hypatia-in-the-Woods in Shelton, Wash. She will be living onsite while working on completing the manuscript for her third book of poetry, with a working title of The Large Glass. The long, multi-poem sequence that gives the book its pending title includes poetry dealing with mourning and landscape, the night sky, and women who travel alone in the American West.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity this residency will give for a period of concentration, away from distractions, in a natural environment on the Olympic Peninsula," Dr. Mueller said.

Nestled in several acres of Pacific Northwest second-growth forest, Hypatia-in-the-Woods offers residencies for women in the arts, entrepreneurs, and academic professors. The retreat center provides an ideal setting for women to find solitude and time for their creative work. While this isn't the Dr. Mueller's first time earning a writing residency, this will be her first time experiencing a residency in Hypatia-in-the-Woods.
