Dr. Julie Tonsing-Meyer Presents in International Educational Meetup

by Tina Tebbe

Lebanon, IL (03/30/2023) — Dr. Julie Tonsing-Meyer, professor of education at McKendree University, recently presented in Kahoot!'s first higher education meetup on Thursday, March 23 in front of dozens of faculty members from different disciplines. Faculty, staff and administrators from all over the world joined in to learn and participate in these presentations.

Dr. Tonsing-Meyer spoke about staying relevant for students, especially future educators, saying that she often does this by incorporating Kahoot! into the classroom. She discussed her research-based teaching practices and how ISTE standards and the constructivist teaching theory support the use of Kahoot! for effective learning.

A teacher of educational technology with a big love for curricular design, Dr. Tonsing-Meyer first experienced Kahoot! through her three sons, whose teachers were using it in their classrooms to check understanding of assignments. She then began incorporating the learning platform with her undergraduate students, and she found that using Kahoot! was a great way to support active learning because students learn through experience, social discourse and collaboration.

"Students aren't satisfied with just lectures; they want engagement and active learning spaces and experiences. Kahoot! is a wonderful tool to use in the classroom to help create sustainable, equitable and high-impact learning," Dr. Tonsing-Meyer said.

Participants were then invited to play along through Kahoot! to test their knowledge on the device, take surveys and more. During this time, Dr. Tonsing-Meyer gave the audience tips on best practices to use with Kahoot! and shared positive feedback from her students.

About Kahoot!
Kahoot! is a digital game resource and global learning platform that helps teachers gamify their resources in the form of quizzes, questionnaires and more. Its aim is to increase engagement, motivation, concentration and fun in the classroom, and it can be used with phones, laptops, computers and tablets.
