Dr. Frederking Presents Discussion about Russian Invasion of Ukraine

Lebanon, IL (04/13/2022) — On Wednesday, April 6, Dr. Brian Frederking provided an insightful online presentation about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and how the war has already influenced world politics. This presentation was part of McKendree's Brown Bag series, and the entire campus was invited to attend the presentation virtually and ask questions over lunch.

Frederking's presentations covered three areas of context regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine: territorial integrity norm, post-cold war Russia-Ukraine relations and the global response. He discussed "state death" through military conquest, which has dramatically decreased in the past 200 years, the formation of the League of Nations - and later the United Nations - to defend against military aggression, examples of territorial integrity violations in the past, Russia-Ukraine relations and more. He also explored the wide global response to the invasion, including economic sanctions, military aid to Ukraine, and the condemnation of Russia's actions by the majority of countries.

Brown Bag events are held each Wednesday throughout the semester and include an array of topics from a variety of speakers. A complete schedule of upcoming Brown Bag topics can be found here. To view Frederking's presentation about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, please click here.
